I had my Wii for 3+ years and was getting bored with it. I heard many people speak of wii mods, so the other day I decided to do some research on the different possibilities. Boy was a in for a surprise. Below are the benefits and simple steps I followed.

Click here to learn why my wii is now the ultimate gaming console!

Emulate Games from other Consoles

Many of my favorite games were on N64 and Super Nintendo. I remember staying up many late nights when I was younger playing some of those games. My mother, screaming for us to get to bed. My brother and I always played fighting games and he would kick my butt every time. Maybe I could master those old games and invite him over for a beating! Oh, and how could I forget those old classic side scrollers! Some Wii mods even claimed to have Sega Genesis gaming abilities. It sounded to could to be true!

Media Player

I could basically turn my Wii into a home media center! It’s true! I was pumped to start watching the many movies I’d been collecting over the years in various media formats. They wouldn’t have to sit around and collect dust anymore. Heck Yeah! Not to mention I could eliminate the need to constantly lug my heavy stereo up and down the steps. I’d just turn my Wii into a DJ machine! My girlfriend unfortunately lost her ipod at the airport a few weeks earlier so I knew she’d be happy to know she could jam to the Wii when doing her workouts at home. If it makes her happy, I’m happy.

Homebrew Applications

This, to me was the most fascinating aspect of most wii mods. This gave me the ability to run software and other awesome software designed by smaller or independent software developers. Some of the cool things were an alarm clock, strobe light, and recipes to name a few. For more tech savvy people there is even an FTP client. How cool is that? Even a text file editor, kind of like making your Wii a computer! The best part is that there are thousands of developers out there so the future will only bring tons of new possibilities.

Here are thе simple instructions οn hοw tο mod and unlock your nintendo wii without using a modchip:

What is a Soft Mod?

Softmodding іѕ one of the few methods used to mod your Nintendo wii. It is done by simply placing software on an SD card and putting into your wii.

1. SD Cards

Thеѕе cards аrе found in a few places. It’s possible that your cell phone or camera has an SD card in it. The wii will then require that SD card to remain inside the wii SD slot every time the console it played or for reading, so make sure you own one yourself.

2. DVDs or External Hard-Drive

You can pretty much use any format DVD! You will then be burning that DVD in your DVD burner. Your computer probably already has one. Then just download some free DVD burning software found anywhere online (if your pc doesn’t already have any).

You can also use a thumb drive, flash stick, or external hard drive to install the software.

3. Unlock Software

This is the software I used to unlock my wii. Just download the files and put them on your SD card or external disk

My Conclusion

There are so many other things I didn’t even mention that you can do. I’m totally glad I looked into different types of wii mods! I have been playing all day long. Let me tell you, Unlocking my wii was the best thing I could do. The mod only took a little bit of research, and a few simple steps! So my suggestion is if you were in the same boat as I was- yawning over my Wii’s limitations, then I’d say go for it!

SD Cards and Card Readers

Today I wanted to talk a little more about SD cards. What they are exactly, what they do, and to talk about some of the different varieties available. I hope this helps clear up any questions. In a nutshell, a SD card is a small chip designed to store various amounts of data. They are typically found inside the SD slot of a digital camera. A SD card can hold anywhere from 2GB of data and up. Originally intended to store and save small amounts of data such as pictures, these days you can find many SD cards with much larger capacities.

Now this is where things get good. If you also have a SD card reader for your computer (small device that usually fits in PC’s USB port) you can put the SD card into it, making the SD card a small boot up disc which can store many files or programs. You can find many of the files and programs online. After downloading these programs and transferring them to the SD card via card reader, pop that baby into your Wii’s SD card slot and you know have a full Nintendo wii cracking software, or in other words, some sweet wii mods.

Compatible Cards

It is important to remember that while we are having loads of fun, I found out that all wii mods, hacking, or unlocking, do void the original manufacturers warranty. This means that if you need to have your unit sent in for repairs by Nintendo, they will install newer software patches and hardware that overwrites yours. They do this because they do not want you messing around with their system and because they are mad they didn’t make it that awesome in the first place. Bottom line is that you probably have a tech savvy friend that can fix most technical problems with your wii if they occur. I haven’t had any problems with mine thus far.

External Hard Drives

Remember that your SD cards will only be able to hold so much data so you may want to purchase an external hard drive in the future so that you can download more hombrew applications or software….there is tons of it out there! Mod it Up!

I just beat another game on the wii this morning! I’m a software smashing machine! It was that Mickey game, and boy was it difficult. However it was a ton of fun because I didn’t have to do it all alone. My girlfriend grabbed the wii control from my hand a few weeks back and was determined just as much as I was.

But now that I’m done with that game, I’m out of ideas for what do play next on the wii. I’ve been working extra long hours at work so all my money has to go to bills. If only I could find a used game or even a cheap game on the virtual console. I have been hearing a lot of things lately on different types of wii mods, so I may look into it later today or maybe tomorrow since I have the day off. A guy that I work with has done something really special to his wii, but he probably won’t help me out because he is a lazy bum. Wow, what good friends I have right? He claims that he can emulate (play) old video games from way back in the day on his wii now. Why doesn’t he just rub it in my face even more? I don’t think modding a wii would be that tricky. I’m not the most tech savvy person so we’ll have to see. I love my nintendo and hate to waste its true potential.

My Grandmother loves my Nintendo Wii so much!

Thats right, my Grandma loves to play too! Now, she always told us as kids that we played video games way too much. We didn’t listen though, we never put down the controller to any video game console, we were so used to ignoring my mom already, so why would we listen to my grannie? I know, I know, I should have respected my elders…but would she be the video game addict she is if I had listened to her?

She loves all the sports games. Bowling is by far her favorite! With the wii, she gets a lot of exercise she wouldn’t get normally. The boxing game makes her arms tingle! What a good workout because she has fun doing it! Just don’t play my grandmother in tennis if she challenges you. She barely puts down the controller long enough to take her medication! She’d probably even like the wii even more if I decide to research wii mods soon. I have been hearing so many positive things about the Nintendo wii being unlocked.
